Meet mentor Rachel Goldberg and mentee Emma Slade!
Emma Slade is a producer from Auckland working extensively in film and TV including her feature The Justice of Bunny King starring Essie Davis (The Babadook) and Thomasin McKenzie (Leave No Trace), Come to Daddy, an New Zealand/Irish/Canadian co-production that premiered at Tribeca in 2019 and the Brazilian/New Zealand feature Little Secret, which was nominated as Brazil’s Oscar entry for Best Foreign Film in 2017. She is currently in development on a female-driven psychological thriller, Night Vision and was a New Zealand Finalist from Catalyst's 2021 International competition. When she joined the Mentorship program, she expressed a need for impressions and guidance on her pitch materials in addition to career insights. We connected her with writer/director Rachel Goldberg. Goldberg is an award-winning filmmaker who directed Muted (HBO), starring Chandra Wilson (Grey's Anatomy) and Malcolm-Jamal Warner (Sneaky Pete), in addition to multiple episodes of Resident Evil (Netflix), A Friend of the Family (Peacock) and American Horror Story (FX). She has been supported by prestigious programs such as the Sony Pictures Television Directors Program, We for She's Direct Her program, AFI's Directing Workshop for Women, Film Independent's Project: Involve, Film Independent's Screenwriting Lab and the FOX Global Directing Initiative. Based on both women’s extensive industry experience and Emma’s career goals and desired insights, we knew this would be a strong and successful connection. Goldberg and Slade met earlier last year to discuss Emma’s goals, her future and delve further into her pitch for Night Vision.
Catalyst is proud to have curated this connection between Rachel and Emma and wishes both of them much continued success in their careers!
