Meet Dawn Wynne: award-winning actor, writer, producer and children's author from California!
Where are you from originally and where are you based now?
I am originally from Northern California. I came to Los Angeles years ago for college (Go Bruins!) and now call LA home.
What project are you currently working on? What is your role in the project?
I am working on a children’s chapter book series. The first book, Midnight Mission, An Eco Avengers Series is published, and I would like to create an animated series based on the 3 animal characters, a dog, cat, and raccoon. Mindy, Frankie, and Jagger are 3 lively characters who stumble upon endangered animals and work to find out what environmental issues are causing their decline and the impact it presents on our planet.
Do you have a favorite hat under the “creator” umbrella?
I love creating ideas and seeing them come to life. So as far as a favorite, writing and producing would probably be my favorite.
What were your earliest inspirations? How did you get started as a creator?
I can’t think of one specific inspiration. As a child, all I dreamed of was becoming an actress. Not sure where that came from, it was in my blood from an early age. I performed in my first play in 4th grade and was hooked. I went on to perform on stage and on camera and then started creating my own content through a short film. I discovered the excitement and satisfaction of seeing an idea come to life. Since then, I have found many avenues to create content such as writing children’s books.
Whose work do you admire? Who are your dream collaborators?
Two people that I admire and am constantly inspired by are Ed Zwick and Sean Penn. While not in the genre of what I write, I admire their creativity, passion, and ability to tell a story and connect on a deep level.
What’s your proudest moment as an artist so far?
My proudest moment was writing, producing, and starring in a short film. The short was screened across the US and Canada and won several awards.
What’s your must-read/must-watch book/show or movie?
Anything by Kristin Hannah is great but Winter Garden is my all-time favorite book. I read it many years ago and it is etched in my memory still today. Mesmerizing, thought provoking, and all-around beautiful storytelling at its best.
Stay up to date with Dawn and her work!
